Donald Gyamfi, 44 years old from Ghana had been having a struggling life for several years along with the stress on his family. This was due to the renal failure that he was going through which entirely hampered his routine life. He would often have swelling in his hands and feet. He felt tired, weak and feeble without doing much work. This was because his kidneys were not able to clean the blood for his body to function properly.
No doubt, Donald started having dialysis and continued it for a long time. However, it was a troublesome process for the entire family. The side-effects were quite noticeable in the form of fatigue. He had episodes of low blood pressure caused due to loss of fluids in the body post dialysis. In addition to all this, he had numerous dietary restrictions associated with stress and anxiety of having kidney failure. “It has not been an easy process to deal with” Donald recalled.
To cease all the hassle, he ultimately decided to have a kidney transplant. He consulted a kidney specialist in Ghana, who after conducting all the physical examination, referred him to India due to the availability of better medical infrastructure and the latest technologies. After searching for the best kidney transplant centers, he stumbled upon the website of Vaidam Health. He posted a query about kidney transplant in India, soon after which he was contacted by the case manager with the list of best nephrologist in India.
To expedite the process, the case manager took his reports and took opinion from some of the best hospitals for kidney transplant in India. After having a thorough search, Donald decided to approach Fortis Escort Heart Institute, New Delhi.
On Donald’s arrival in India on 23rd August 2018, he was picked up by a team member of Vaidam Health and taken to the hotel. A day after, his appointment was booked with Dr. AS Narula at Fortis Escort Hospital. Dr. Narula is one of the finest nephrologists in India. He took a detailed case history of the patient and meticulously performed all the physical examinations.
After the test reports came out favorable, the date was scheduled for the kidney transplant in India.
Soon after the surgery was performed, the body accepted the donor's kidney and started to function with minimal immune-rejection symptoms. However, after staying in the hospital for some days, he was able to recover. The doctor gave him some post-operative instructions related to diet and lifestyle.
Donald finally waved back to Ghana on 12 November 2018. He was extremely glad as he finally got rid of the painful and stressful life that he had in the past.
