In spite of visiting several doctors in Ghana, 4-year-old Gold Agyare suffered from severe headaches. She was diagnosed with meningitis and was prescribed painkillers until she underwent an MRI scan in which her parents came to know that the cause of the endless sessions of headaches was a brain tumor. Here, Gold’s mother, Mrs. Sarah speaks about their medical trip to India:
How did you choose to come to India for Gold’s treatment?
The MRI report was shocking. We didn’t know that our daughter had a brain tumor before that. I and my husband were concerned about what effect the previous medications had on the brain tumor and how terrible the condition of it may be at that point. As Ghana could not provide us with the treatment we looked for, for our daughter, we searched for options in the internet and there we found out about Vaidam Health.
How was Gold’s treatment in India?
My daughter’s treatment went really well. I didn’t expect that she would recover so soon. I and my husband were pretty skeptical about the whole procedure as we were getting multiple suggestions from other doctors in Ghana, our friends and associates. We were scared and confused as to what will be the right treatment for her.
In India, she underwent a VP shunt followed by brain tumor excision surgery at Fortis Memorial Research Institute. The whole treatment was provided by Dr. Sandeep Vaishya and we are so thankful to him today. FMRI is truly a very advanced hospital.
After going through such confusion how did you finally come to a decision?
My case manager at Vaidam helped me a lot in taking the right decision. She arranged a call with one of their previous patients from Ghana. His name is Ofori Atta and he also had a neurology treatment under Dr. Sandeep Vaishya. We were scared to death when doctors in Ghana told us that performing a VP Shunt at Gold’s age could prove to be fatal for her. So, we decided that we would not go for it and had let our case manager know the same.
But she suggested that before taking a decision we should talk to Dr. Vaishya first so that we can understand why it was necessary and a video conference was arranged. By the end of the conference, we were sure that we would be coming to India for the treatment because Dr. Vaishya explained to us in details about the whole procedure, the pros and cons and everything. This reassured us and we trusted the doctor.
In what other ways did Vaidam assist you?
Vaidam was very helpful. No other company is as caring and responsible for their patients and their attendants as Vaidam is. The team has guided us in approaching the correct treatment for our daughter, in visa application, providing us with the best price for the treatment, accommodation facilities and being by our side throughout the trip. We are grateful to them for their assistance and thorough guidance without which I think we could have not saved our daughter.
