Maurice from Sierra Leone gets Relief from the Pancreatic Tumor by having Surgery in New Delhi, India.

Maurice Moinina Bokaire, who is 58 years old from Sierra Leone who was are recently diagnosed with the pancreatic head tumor. It was approximately 2 months ago that he started having reduced appetite. He used to have an abdominal fullness on eating just a small quantity of food. After some days, he noticed pale stools and also felt dull chest pain. Maurice was worried upon this sudden worsening of his symptoms. He then consulted a doctor in his city where he came to know that he had jaundice. Soon he started having the treatment for jaundice.

After persistence of jaundice for a considerable amount of time, he again consulted the doctor. He was advised to get further investigations done. The reports revealed that he had a tumor in his pancreas, for which he will require surgery. Since the surgery would not be possible in Sierra Leone, Maurice planned to visit India for his treatment.

While he was trying to know about the best gastroenterology hospitals in India, he came across the website of Vaidam Health. Then he posted his query on the website. Soon he received a call back from one of the case managers. The case manager, Dr. Tammana assisted the patient in getting opinions from some of the best gastroenterologists in India and helped him selecting one of them. Finally, the patient made up his mind to visit Dharamshila Narayana hospital, New Delhi.

The team also helped Maurice to get a Visa Invitation Letter from the hospital and file a visa. Soon the patient arrived in India on 20th November 2018. He was picked up from the airport and taken to the hotel. Later his appointment was scheduled with Dr. Nikhil Agarwal, a senior gastroenterologist at the hospital. After taking a detailed medical history and getting all the investigations done including CT, DSE, and PFT;  the doctor advised him to undertake Whipple’s Pancreaticoduodenectomy. This is the most common surgery used to remove cancerous lesions in the pancreas.

After scheduling the surgery, the patient went through a routine examination to prepare for the surgery. The surgery went on for nearly 4-6 hours and was successful. He was kept under observation for some days and ultimately discharged from the hospital. Shortly, he went back to his country with a smile of relief.
