- Dr. Samir Shah is an experienced hepatobiliary surgeon who works as the Head of Department of Hepatology, Institute of Liver Disease, HPB Surgery and Transplant surgery.
- His experience in Gastroenterology, HPB Surgery as well as transplantology is vast and amounts to 30+ years. He has lead the efforts to further the growth of liver transplantation in India.
- For this purpose, Dr Samir Shah has been leading the way in coordinating efforts to start a cadaveric organ transplant programme in the country especially in the city of Mumbai.
- He was directly involved with the first successful liver transplant in Mumbai.
- He has been awarded the Hargobind Foundation Scholarship and trained in Hepatology and Liver transplant at the Institute of Hepatology, University College London.
- He was the first elected Secretary of the Indian Association for Study of the Liver for the period 1995-1997 and has been a Council Member of International Liaison Committee, Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL).
- He has been a member of the Editorial Board of Indian Journal of Gastroenterology and on the National Advisory Board of the Journal of the Association of Physician of India (JAPI) and currently on the Editorial Board of the J of Clinical and Expt Hep.
- He has been involved with several international clinical trials on new drug development with presentations in international meetings and publications in peer reviewed journals.
- He is the founder Trustee and the Hon. Secretary of the National Liver Foundation.
- He is the Founding and Executive Committee Member of the recently formed Asia Pacific Organization, Coalition to Eradicate Viral Hepatitis in Asia Pacific (CEVHAP).
