Patients from countries, big and small, travel to India for their medical treatment because of the availability of state-of-the-art infrastructure and technology and for the affordability of various procedures. But the major problem faced by them is communication due to language disparities. This not only creates utter confusion but also delays the treatment.

To curb such a disadvantage, Chandra rightly suggests the need for special language programs, workshops, training courses to tackle patients and understand them, presence of help desks in hospitals as well as a bureau of interpreters international patients can get in touch with.

Medical travel facilitators should also hire translators who will not only provide clarity in the doctor-patient interaction but should also assist the patients while they are in the country for several weeks. Incorporating medical translators is a big step towards the development of the medical tourism industry.
