In a country where access to advanced neurological and cardiac care remains limited, bringing specialized healthcare directly to the people can make all the difference. On October 26th and 27th, 2024, Vaidam Health, in collaboration with CARE Hospitals, Hyderabad, India, hosted a free medical consultation camp at St. John's Medical Centre, Woodlands, Lusaka.
The initiative was designed to offer timely, expert consultations to patients in need, right in their community, without the need to travel abroad.
Expert Consultations from Leading Indian Doctors
The two-day specialist health camp in Lusaka was led by Dr. Venkatesh Yeddula, a highly skilled neurosurgeon from India, who is known for his ability to treat brain tumors, disc-related problems, spinal tumors, nerve compression, and hydrocephalus, and Dr. A. Nagesh, a senior Indian cardiologist who is skilled in identifying and treating high blood pressure, chest pain, palpitations, and other cardiovascular conditions with an emphasis on precise diagnosis and lifestyle-based care.
These seasoned specialists provided free one-on-one consultations to nearly 70 patients in Zambia, offering second opinions, treatment advice, and referrals for complex procedures in India when needed.
Transforming Concerns into Care
Throughout the camp, patients received focused, one-on-one consultations with the visiting doctors. Many came in with unresolved neurological symptoms such as headaches, seizures, and mobility issues, while others sought help for heart-related symptoms like palpitations, chest pain, and high blood pressure.
The doctors not only offered precise diagnoses and second opinions but also advised on treatment planning, medication adjustments, and, when necessary, referral pathways for advanced care in India.
The patients expressed immense gratitude for the opportunity to speak with such experienced specialists locally without the stress and cost of international travel.
Patient Insights on the Camp
The camp received very excellent feedback. The majority of patients expressed their appreciation for having direct access to Indian medical expertise in their nation.
Many people also shared how difficult it can be to obtain timely medical visas or afford travel-related expenses for treatment abroad. They emphasized the value of frequent follow-up chances with visiting international doctors and expressed a strong desire to see more such camps organized in the future.
Conclusion
The OPD camp at St. John's Medical Center in Lusaka was a huge success. The event represents another significant milestone in Vaidam Health's mission to make top-notch healthcare available internationally.
Vaidam Health extends heartfelt thanks to CARE Hospitals and St. John's Medical Centre for their unwavering support. Inspired by this success, we remain committed to continuing these impactful healthcare initiatives across Zambia, ensuring that expert care reaches those who need it most.
