• For the first time in India, doctors at Galaxy Care Laparoscopy Institute (GCLI), Pune will perform womb transplantation.
  • This new procedure involves the transfer of uteri from a healthy donor to the recipient.
  • The two women's donors are their mothers.
  • Among the two patients, while one suffers from Asherman's syndrome, the other does not have a uterus.
  • Post transplant, the donor and the recipient undergoes screening procedures.
  • After the successful womb transplantation, the patients conceive through IVF and deliver babies through Caesarean-section.
  • The patients have to take immuno-suppressants  for life so that rejection of the donor uterus is prevented.
