• Three-year-old girl from Iraq, Zahraa Hussein Abdali Badrah, was born without thumb.
  • She, therfore, faced a hindrance in her abilities to hold or grab objects properly.
  • But, doctors at Inamdar Hospital, Pune had significantly cured her through pollicisation, a complex hand surgery.
  • In the 2.5 hour long surgery, Dr. Sumit Saxena along with his team altered the size and plane of th index finger so as to make it function as the thumb. 
  • According to Dr. Saxena, the procedure of pollicisation is complex in which doctors have to be sure that muscles and tendons are not damaged.    
  • 21 days after the surgery, Zahraa can now pick up objects, play with her toys and scribble without a hitch.
