Cancer is becoming more prevalent around the world, particularly in low and middle-income countries (LMIC). According to WHO projections, LMICs will bear two-thirds of the cancer burden in 2040. The change in the incidence of cancer cases in Ethiopia is primarily driven by population growth and aging. In 2019, behavioral risks, metabolic and occupational exposure, and air pollution were attributed to approximately 20% of cancer in Ethiopia.
Despite the increase in prevalence, cancer treatment is usually inaccessible and expensive in Ethiopia. Given such conditions, Vaidam Health conducted a successful medical camp in Ethiopia on the 26th and 27th of January 2024 in Senay Medical Center, Addis Ababa. The camp was conducted with Dr. Ari G. Chacko, practicing at Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, Chennai, India.
Our team member, Fasika Negussie, was at the camp to help and assist the patients the whole time. Patients expressed satisfaction with the medical camp and thanked us for providing access to international medical experts.
