She also discussed advanced techniques such as IMSI (Intracytoplasmic Morphologically-selected Sperm Injection) and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI). The embryologist fertilizes the oocytes (egg) using an extremely high-powered microscope in these techniques. This is performed to select the sperm cells with the best morphological quality.
Dr. Khanna elaborated on Microsurgical Testicular Sperm Extraction (MicroTESE), a surgical procedure used to retrieve sperm from a male testis. MicroTESE is considered one of the most effective methods of sperm retrieval and is performed mainly in cases of severe infertility like azoospermia (inability to produce sperm). It is carefully coordinated with the Reproductive Endocrinologist and performed at designated times quarterly.
