A One Room Hospital Worth 2 crores is Built at Saifee Hospital for the Bariatric Treatment of the Heaviest Person on Planet
Saifee Hospital at Charni Road, Mumbai has to build a one room hospital worth Rs. 2 crore by the end of this month, that is, January 31, 2017. The reason why they are putting such an effort is to cure an Egyptian patient who will be arriving soon to have her bariatric surgery.
Eman Ahmed hasn't gone out of her house for the 25 years because of her humungous weight of 500kgs. She not only suffers from severe obesity but also others diseases like diabetes, asthma, hypertension, pulmonary disease and depression. She had been bed ridden since she underwent a cerebral stroke when she was at primary school.
With no hope for a treatment in Egypt her sister looked for a treatment in India. But transportation was a major issue as none of the airlines was ready to cooperate. It was only after Dr. Lakdawala, Saifee's consultant bariatric surgeon, approached the Indian Minister of External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj, that she got instant help from the minister. Now, with almost 70% of the construction being done at the hospital, she is finally coming to India.
In order to provide her with the best treatment Saifee Hospital is busy constructing a 3000sq ft facility that will include an operation theatre, a dedicated ICU, a doctor's room, an attendant's room, two restrooms and a video conferencing room.
Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala along with a cardiologist, a cardiac surgeon, an endocrinologist, a chest physician, two intensivists and three anaesthetisits will be operating Ahmed. They will also be keeping her under close surveillance post surgery.
Eman Ahmed will be recieving her treatment for free and will spend almost six months under Dr.Lakdawala's care.
