In the December 2018 edition of IMT Magazine (IndiaMedToday Magazine), the co-founder of Vaidam, Manish Chandra shares the importance of technology in the medical tourism industry to move the industry towards the structured marketplace. IMT is a healthcare media company specializing in Business Information and its magazine reports on the issues and trends that are shaping the business of healthcare in India and abroad.
The high quality yet cost-effective medical treatment forces more and more patients, from developed and developing counties, to travel to India. This has made India a hub for medical tourists every year. However, the medical travel facilitation in India is a fragmented space with no major player dominating the space. Internationally there has been funding in this space but in India, there is no such activity. Furthermore, there are many variables in the medical tourism industry like language, geography, travel and more.
To bridge this gap, Chandra suggests the use of technology. The things important to patients such as advice, translation and curated content can also be created using technology. It will not just provide the ease of information but will also help the industry to move towards the structured marketplace.
