Indian Specialists in Zambia | Two-Day OPD Camp by Vaidam Health
Access to specialised medical care can be life-changing, especially in places where such expertise is not always easy to reach. Understanding this need, Vaidam Health, in collaboration with Gleneagles Hospitals, organised a two-day medical OPD camp at St. John’s Medical Centre, Lusaka, Zambia, on 4th and 5th October 2025.
The initiative aimed to bring world-class medical expertise closer to patients in Zambia, providing them with the opportunity to consult directly with senior specialists from India without the need for costly or stressful travel abroad.
Expert Consultations from Renowned Indian Specialists
Dr. Girish Bhalerao, Senior Orthopaedic & Joint Replacement Surgeon
For many patients, joint pain and mobility issues had become part of their daily lives. During the camp, Dr. Girish Bhalerao, one of India’s leading orthopaedic and joint replacement surgeons from Gleneagles Hospitals, offered detailed consultations for a wide range of conditions, including fractures, ligament injuries, shoulder dislocations, spine problems, and hip or knee disorders.
Dr. Bhalerao’s calm, approachable manner made patients feel at ease as he explained each condition in simple terms. He discussed personalised treatment options and exercises that could help them regain strength and movement.
Dr. Tushar Sambhaji Jadhav, Senior Surgical Oncologist
Alongside him, Dr. Tushar Jadhav, a renowned surgical oncologist from India, offered expert cancer consultations. He met with patients battling or recovering from breast, gastrointestinal, liver, and gynecological cancers, patiently listening to their stories and guiding them through possible treatment paths.
Patients shared heartfelt appreciation for his compassionate approach and the clarity he provided in understanding their condition and care options.
A Transformative Impact
Over 40 patients attended the two-day camp. Many came anxious and uncertain but left feeling informed, reassured, and hopeful. Some described the experience as “life-changing,” while others expressed gratitude for the time and attention they received from the visiting doctors. Several patients noted that they finally felt sufficiently informed to make confident decisions about their next steps.
Continuing the Mission
Encouraged by the success of the Lusaka camp, Vaidam Health and Gleneagles Hospitals plan to expand similar outreach programs across Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and other regions in Africa.
Their shared vision is to ensure that quality healthcare is accessible, affordable, and equitable, not a privilege, but a right.
Conclusion
The Zambia OPD Camp stands as a testament to the power of collaboration, compassion, and care.
By bridging geographical boundaries and connecting patients with expert medical specialists, Vaidam Health continues to bring hope, healing, and world-class healthcare closer to communities that need it most.
