Healing Beyond Borders: Vaidam Health and Amrita Hospital Bring Specialist OPD Camp to Sierra Leone
In Sierra Leone’s capital, Freetown, a significant step toward advancing specialised healthcare was taken on April 14 and 15, 2025, as Vaidam Health partnered with Amrita Hospital, India, to host a two-day OPD camp in neurology and urology at Freetown International Hospital. The event marked a meaningful step in Vaidam’s ongoing mission to make expert medical care more accessible for communities worldwide without the need to travel far from home.
Leading Specialists From India Offer Expert Consultations
Two experts from Amrita Hospital supervised the camp: Dr. Anandh Balasubramaniam, a top neurosurgeon, and Dr. Anil Sharma, a senior urologist. Patients in Sierra Leone had a unique chance to consult directly with skilled medical professionals who are educated to treat complicated medical diseases.
Over the two days, the camp received 40 patients, 15 of whom were neurology cases and 25 of whom were urology cases. People sought clarification, second opinions, and treatment advice for long-standing health issues, creating a hopeful attitude.
Addressing Complex Health Issues with Compassion
Patients visiting the camp consulted for various urological and neurological conditions, many of which require advanced diagnosis and treatment. Patients seeking urology consultations presented with conditions such as urological cancers, urinary incontinence, and hematuria, each significantly affecting quality of life. A number of individuals also came for renal transplant evaluations to understand their eligibility and treatment options.
Neurology consultations covered a wide range of conditions, including spinal tumors, injuries, spina bifida, chronic back pain, brain tumors, hydrocephalus, cerebral aneurysms, cysts, and epilepsy. For many patients, it was their first chance to consult directly with a neurosurgeon and explore advanced treatment possibilities.
A Positive Response and a Shared Vision
The local community's reaction was largely positive. Patients conveyed their appreciation for the chance to speak with highly qualified experts. Patients also had the opportunity to learn about other treatment choices in India in case more complex treatments were needed.
At Vaidam Health, we are proud to partner with top hospitals like Amrita to bring such impactful services to Sierra Leone.
Looking Ahead
Vaidam Health intends to host other specialty OPD camps in Sierra Leone based on the camp's performance and the community's positive response. We want to ensure that high-quality care is always accessible by partnering with top hospitals and knowledgeable physicians.
