A 50-year-old man's life in Delhi was limited to only a year because of his decreased cardiac efficiency and heart failure.
As the need for a heart transplant surgery became inevitable, the donor heart was duly provided by a 21-year-old accident victim from Jaipur.
Two initial angioplasties and an implantable cardioverter defibrillator device could not do much to keep the patient's heart strong anymore.
The donor heart was retreived soon after the doctors at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute received the information of a suitable donor at Eternal Heart Care Centre, Jaipur.
Within 30 minutes the heart arrived at FEHI where the transplant was performed in 6 hours and his life was saved.
According to the chairman at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, Dr. Ashok Seth, because of significant awareness a steady growth in organ donation has been witnessed that culminated in saving a lot of lives.
The condition of the patient has been stable post surgery.
