AIIMS Collaborated With IIT Delhi to Design a Neurosurgery Simulation Training Based on Artificial Intelligence

• AIIMS has collaborated with IIT Delhi and designed an AI-based simulator.
• This AI-based simulator trains and evaluates budding neurosurgeons for minimally invasive microscopic and endoscopic surgical skills. 
• This AI-based simulator aims to revolutionize the observation and evaluation of neurosurgical skills, which can have a significant impact on brain surgery.
• The system simplifies the assessment process for neurosurgeons and establishes training and evaluation standards in the field. 
• Dr. Ashish Suri, the principal investigator of the neuro-engineering facility and unit head of the neurosurgery department at AIIMS Delhi, mentioned, "In the current apprenticeship model, neurosurgeons learn through observation and assistance from a skilled expert inside the operating room."
• To cope with the traditional approach to training, this new apprenticeship model provides effective training with intelligent smart surgical simulators as an effective alternative.
• Prof. Prem Kumar Kalra, head of the computer science department at IIT Delhi, said, "This collaboration has automated skills evaluation in microscopic and endoscopic neurosurgery training using computer vision and AI/ML, leading to significant advancements in medical education and training technology."
