What does a cosmetic surgeon do?
The Cosmetic Surgeon's objective is to improve a patient's look aesthetically, thus the operations, principles, and techniques he or she uses are all focused on that goal. The objective is to increase the proportion, aesthetic attractiveness, and symmetry of the body on which a procedure is being performed. All parts of the body, including the head and neck, can be treated with cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery is a personal decision taken by the patient.
What is Liposuction Surgery?
Liposuction has emerged as a medical boom that is helping individuals in achieving their goal of a fit and fat-free physique. Liposuction is a surgical treatment that removes fat from particular regions of the body using a suction method, such as the belly, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms, or neck. Liposuction contours (shapes) these regions as well. Lipoplasty and body contouring are other terms for liposuction.
What is the procedure of Liposuction Surgery?
- Markings before surgery: A preoperative marking is done when the patient is in an upright position before liposuction. In patients undergoing total body liposuction or contouring, marking can be done one day prior. A circle denotes areas that will be suctioned.
- Anaesthesia: Under local anaesthetic with moderate sedation, small volume liposuction can be performed. A general anaesthetic is required for large volume liposuction. To facilitate fat removal and reduce post-operative discomfort, anaesthetic solutions are injected into the body.
- Fat Suctioning: The procedure entails creating a tiny incision in a concealed location where the fatty tissue is located. After that, a cannula the size of a pencil is inserted. Which is linked to suction equipment through a plastic tube.
Suction fat is solely from the "storage" region, not the metabolic area. This treatment takes around 25 minutes for each region and is painless. A suturing stitch is placed on the above-mentioned incisions once the suction is done. Following that, the dressing is applied, compressing the suctioned region.
The fat cells are permanently removed after the liposuction surgery, however new fat cells might develop in the body regions, causing weight gain.
Different types of liposuction
- Suction-assisted liposuction (SAL): This is the most common type of liposuction that uses a vacuum to remove fat. The elimination of unwanted fatty deposits from certain body areas is the goal of this procedure.
- UAL (Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction): The fat is liquefied before being removed using this method, which uses ultrasonic waves to target the fat cells. So, sound energy waves are used to break the fat cell walls, and the liquid fat is then suctioned out. It enables more accurate fat removal while also increasing skin contraction.
- Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL): A specific cannula that generates small and fast vibrations is utilised in this procedure to break down fat cells and remove them from the patient's body. This method aids the surgeon in maintaining control over the liposuction process, allowing them to conduct the fat removal operation with greater accuracy. This method allows the surgeon to remove more fat in less time, resulting in better outcomes.
- Laser-Assisted Liposuction: A laser fibre is inserted beneath the skin to help melt the fat, which is subsequently suctioned out using a cannula.
Liposuction is not an obesity treatment and should not be used in place of a healthy diet and regular exercise. Cellulite and stretch marks are not removed with liposuction.
