Implantation Failure
It refers to the inability to achieve pregnancy due to the embryo that was once fertilized by the union of egg and sperm and now has failed to stay in the uterine wall to form the gestational sac. It is very difficult to detect the cause of infertility in a couple. It may be due to implantation failures or while trying to conceive naturally as it is not possible to know. Implantation failure occurs when the embryo is not ready to synchronize with and fasten the endometrium.
Specifically, implantation failure is considered to exist when the woman has not achieved pregnancy after three complete IVF cycles. It is said to be failed when it has not made women pregnant with the transfer of about 6 or more embryos and 2 egg donation cycles.
Causes
- Embryonic Causes
Genetic alterations in the embryo or the gametes of the progenitors, or in the zona pellucida of the embryo that prevent hatching.
- Uterine Causes
Endometriosis adhesions, uterine malformations, hydrosalpinx, infections, endometrial polyps, fibroids, etc.
- Systemic Causes
Thrombophilias, endocrine alterations, autoimmune diseases
Diagnosis and Treatment
To increase the likelihood of pregnancy a series of tests must be carried out before effective treatment can be applied. The diagnosis of implantation failure is difficult. But the result of these tests generally helps the specialists to personalize fertility treatment as much as they can.
