• A 37-year-old man suffered from a peculiar condition of severe abdominal pain whenever he ate.
  • As a result his body did not receive the necessary nutrition and he was underweight.
  • He was diagnosed with Celiac Artery Compression Syndrome at Sterling Hospitals, Ahmedabad, Gujarat after a CT angiography.
  • According to laparoscopic and bariatric surgeon, Dr. Apurva Vyas, it is a very rare medical condition that occurs in only 1 in 100,000 cases.
  • The celic artery of the patient, that provides oxygenated blood to the digestive system, was compressed.
  • Therefore, during food intake instead of a sufficient amount there was a dearth of oxygen supply leading to the abdominal pain.
  • As the celiac artery (located deep under the crus of the diaphragm) cannot be reached by traditional methods of surgery, robotic surgery served to be the ideal treatment for it.
  • After the third day post operation, the patient could finally eat again without any pain as well as join his regular work.
