1-Year-Old from Uganda Undergoes Successful Heart Surgery in India
Patient Name: Master Myron Karl
Age: 1 Year
Gender: Male
Country of Origin: Uganda
Doctor: Dr. Aseem Shrivastava
Hospital Name: Artemis Hospital, Gurugram
Treatment: Truncus Arteriosus Surgery
When Abiyo Esambella from Uganda gave birth to her baby boy, Myron Karl, everything seemed normal at first. However, by the time Myron turned four months old, Abiyo began noticing something unusual; her baby often had difficulty breathing, accompanied by a persistent cough and rapid breathing.
Local doctors prescribed oral medications, but the symptoms continued. Concerned, Abiyo sought further medical advice, and at one year of age, an ECHO confirmed a congenital heart defect, Truncus Arteriosus Type 1 with mild valve stenosis and tricuspid regurgitation.
Determined to find the best care for her son, Abiyo began searching for treatment options abroad. That’s when she came across Vaidam Health. She submitted her query, and the team connected her with Artemis Hospital.
Upon arrival at Artemis Hospital, Myron underwent detailed cardiac evaluations under the care of Dr. Aseem Shrivastava. He first performed a cardiac catheterization to assess the heart’s condition and operability, followed by a successful Truncus Arteriosus repair surgery. The surgery went smoothly, and Myron started breathing normally and growing stronger each day.
Sharing her experience, Abiyo said, “From the hospital reception to the nursing staff, everyone treated us with so much care and warmth. I truly felt at home here in India. I thank Dr. Aseem Shrivastava and his entire surgical team for saving my child’s life. And a big thank you to Vaidam Health for making this journey possible. Without their help, I wouldn’t have known where to start.”
Today, Myron is active, healthy, and growing well. For Abiyo, this successful surgery in India gave her son a second chance at life.
Vaidam Health is proud to have walked beside Myron Karl on his path to recovery and renewed life.
