Pyeloplasty is the surgical reconstruction of the renal pelvis. The objective of the surgery is to treat a uretero-pelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction.

During Pyeloplasty, the surgeon makes a two to three-inch incision below the ribs to remove the obstructed segment of the ureter. The remnant ureter is then reattached to the renal pelvis followed by placing a stent to drain urine from the kidney.
