During the stay in the hospital, all the medical expenses are included in the package. However, the medicines required in the post-treatment period after the patient is discharged are usually not included in the package.

Usually, the patient is required to stay in the hospital for 4-5 days after the surgery. The doctor then takes follow-up with the patient and recommends home care practices. The hospital stay, as well as the services, are included in the package. However, overstaying beyond the package days in the hospital is chargeable.

The doctor calls for follow-ups after two to four weeks of surgery. Further, the doctor assists the patient with the required number of follow-ups. These appointments are not included in the package.

Most insurance companies provide either partial or full aid for DBS surgery. The insurance usually covers expenses incurred on pre-and post-hospitalization stay as well as the medicine cost and ambulance services.

A technique known as extradural motor cortex stimulation (EMCS) can be an alternative to DBS and is also less invasive in nature. However, more research is required in this area and it’s best to contact your doctor to know the best course of action.
