Circumcision is successful when performed on newborns. Once the area is cleansed, the procedure involves the injection of anesthetic into the base of the penis. Afterward, a special clamp or plastic ring is attached to the penis to remove the foreskin. Now, the doctor applies an ointment on the treated area and wraps it loosely with gauze.
