Types of Implants for Breast augmentation
Shape: Saline & Silicone Gel implants are round, while gummy bear implants come in round and shaped options .
Size - Breast implants range in size ,as many patients require a different sized breast implant for each breast; this helps to achieve the best possible symmetry.
Types of Incision for Breast Augmentation
Incisions are made so as the resulting scars are not easily visible , the different types of incision are :
Inframammary. It is a short incision made in the crease underneath the breast( inframammary fold), this incision type allows a cosmetic surgeon to place larger silicone implants or gummy bear implants with precision.
Peri-areolar. The incision is made around the outer edge of the areola
Trans-axillary. This involves a small incision made within the armpit, through which surgeon places the breast implant using a specialized instruments and camera, in this there is no scar on the breast but in the armpit
Transumbilical. This technique involves an incision just above the belly button. Each implant is inserted through this incision and then brought up to the breast, advantage being there is no scarring on the breast itself.
Types of Implant Placement for Breast Augmentation
The approach to place a breast implant differs
Sub glandular – The breast implant is placed in space between the breast tissue (the mammary gland) and the pectoralis major muscle (major muscle of the chest) and gives good results..
Sub fascial – The breast implant is emplaced beneath the fascia of the pectoralis major muscle
Sub pectoral – The breast implant is placed beneath the pectoralis major muscle, after the surgeon releases the inferior muscular attachment.
Sub muscular – The breast implant is placed beneath the pectoralis major muscle , this implantation approach effects maximal coverage of the breast implants.
