- Balloon angioplasty - In this procedure, a tube is inserted through the blocked artery after which a small balloon is inflated to widen the artery. Afterwards, the tube and the balloon is removed, and a metal stent is left behind to keep the artery dilated.
- Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EEP) - This procedure involves compressing blood vessels in the lower limbs, which increases blood flow to the heart. This is administered every day for a period of one to two hours for 7 weeks.
- Medications - Certain medications can also be considered to be taken before the surgery. These medications include beta-blockers and cholesterol-reducing agents.
