The treatment of Acromioclavicular joint includes strengthening of joint by physical therapy exercises or stretching. Surgery is done to relieve pain and restore the function by removing the damaged end of the clavicle bone. If the joint is more severe then it is needed to be treated surgically.
You can be at the risk of acromioclavicular joint repair if you have connective tissue disorder, heart disease, diabetes, lung disease or any previous trauma to shoulder.
The time taken to do Acromioclavicualr joint surgery is two hours.
In Acromioclavicular surgery a transverse incision is being made over AC joint and then the capsule is opened longitudinally and dislocation is being inspected. Then distal clavicle is excised approximately to 7mm and acromion is being roughened up.
It will take around 4 to 6 months to recover completely from Acromioclavicular surgery but it has shown higher level of function.
You have to limit your activity of elbow stretching the sling should be there for one weeks after surgery. You are not allowed to lift your arms for two months after the surgery.
