Urodynamic testing is the procedure to check the functioning of the lower urinary consisting of the bladder, sphincters and urethra which works to store and release urine. This test completely focuses on the holding capacity of your bladder and its capacity to empty urine.
Urodynamic test will check the functions of the bladder, sphincters and the urethera for releasing and holding the urine. This test shows how well your bladder functions and the reason for having any leakage or blockage.
Urodynamic procedure can be uncomfortable but this procedure will not hurt you. You will not need any kind of sedation for this procedure.
Urodynamic test will take around 60 minutes to be done without any need of sedation.
There is no need of any special preparation for urodynamic test, your doctor will tell you to drink fluid before the test so that your bladder is full.
There are various method of doing urodynamic test, in cystometric test which measure the point of leakage if the bladder contracts. If bladder contracts when bladder is being filled, you will be told to cough or strain while that bladder is being filled so that pressure can be measured.
The other method of doing urodynamic test is Electromyography. Electromyography uses sensors to measure the electrical activity of the muscles and nerves in and around the bladder and the sphincters. The test uses electrode patches placed near the urethra and rectum to record electrical currents when muscles in the pelvic floor contract.
After your urodynamic test you will have some mild discomfort and soreness while urinating but this will only last for few hours. You can also notice some small amount of blood because of the catheter.
Urodynamics testing involves a small risk of developing a urinary tract infection or experiencing urinary frequency and/or urgency. You may also notice a small amount of blood in the urine. If these symptoms persists for more than 24 hours then you should visit your doctor.
The result of urodynamic test will take 7 to 10 days because it take time to review and make final.
