Doctors use an MRI scan or CT Scan and Electromyography (EMG)to examine the facial nerve. Blood tests are also done to rule out Lyme infection and other such infections. The package typically includes the cost of the tests done before the treatment.
Medicines that the patient intakes at the hospital are covered in the package. Medications taken for healing are not covered in the package price.
Over-the-counter medicines prescribed by your doctor and/or physical therapy are the only treatment options for Bell's palsy as surgery is rarely an option. They cost extra and are not covered in the package.
There is no need to stay at the hospital for Bell's palsy treatment and you only need to take medications and therapy to recover outside the hospital. If you choose to go for surgery, decompression surgery is done to relieve the stress on the facial nerve. Some other surgery types include an eyelid lift, eyebrow lift, facial implants, or nerve grafts. The hospital stay for any of the aforementioned surgeries is typically 1 to 2 days.
Typically, bells palsy comes under critical conditions, and therefore, a regular health insurance plan may not cover it. However, it is best to check with your provider to know the exact details.
Taking medications such as prednisone (corticosteroids) and antiviral drugs are the most common treatment options. Paralyzed muscles caused due to Bell's palsy can also be treated with physical therapy. Plastic surgery is the last option to treat Bell’s palsy and the most expensive one as well. Your doctor can suggest you the best option based on your condition.
