Before acute lymphocytic leukemia, your doctor will recommend blood tests, bone marrow tests, imaging tests, and spinal fluid tests. Treatment packages include the cost of tests as well.
When the patient is in the hospital, the pharmacy and medicine bills are included in the package. Alternatively, if the patient buys medicines outside the hospital, they are not included.
Patients are frequently need to stay in the hospital for 3 to 4 weeks throughout therapy. However, depending on the circumstances, many patients may be able to leave the hospital. For the first three months after treatment, doctors usually schedule follow-up appointments every few months for five years following the treatment.
If the leukaemia returns after treatment, it is referred to as recurrent or relapsed leukaemia. When this happens, a new testing cycle will begin in order to understand as much as possible about the recurrence. You and your doctor will discuss your treatment choices when this testing is completed.
Many of the costs of leukaemia treatment are covered by insurance. As with other cancers, doctors personalize treatment choices for patients based on their medical history and kind of cancer.
Chemotherapy is the primary treatment. However, depending on your subtype, you may be able to get alternate treatment. A targeted cancer medicine, immunotherapy, or a stem cell or bone marrow transplant may be considered.

Acute lymphocytic leukemia are most commonly seen in children. It has got highest survival rate which has been improved up to 90 percent.
Acute lymphocytic leukemia is a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow. The disease progresses rapidly and then creates immature blood cells rather than the mature.
Acute lymphocytic leukemia is a serious disease and it is treated with chemotherapy or with or without a bone marrow transplant.
Acute leukemia affects your blood cells and bone marrow as with other type of cancer, just like other type of cancer recently there is no cure for leukemia . People having leukemia after sometime may experience a state of remission which is a state after diagnosis and treatment after which the cancer is no longer being detected in body.
Acute lympohocytic leukemia starts from the white blood cells which are called as lymphocytes from the bone marrow. This disease will take around few days to week to develop.
Symptoms of acute lymphocytic leukemia includes bleeding from gums, bone pain, fever, frequent infection, severe nose bleeding, pale skin, shortness of breath, weakness, fatigue or decrease in energy levels.
Acute lymphocytic leukemia occurs due to the changes in genetic material which is present in bone marrow but its causes is not known, there are some factors which can increase the risk of acute lymphocytic leukemia.
Acute lymphocytic leukemia is not serious but if not treated it can be fatal within the first few months. Lymphocytic means that it has developed from early form of lymphocytes.
The factors which can increase the risk of acute lymphocytic leukemia are age over 70, chemo or radiotherapy, white people, exposure of high level of radiation, genetic disorders such as Down syndrome.
The signs and symptoms of acute lymphocytic leukemia are Weakness or feeling tired, Fever or night sweats, Shortness of breath, easy bruising or bleeding, pain or feeling of fullness below ribs and swollen lymph nodes
Acute lymphocytic leukemia is being diagnosed by physical examination, medical history and blood tests such as CBC with blood chemistry tests such as basic metabolic panel, liver and kidney function test and electrolyte test.
Surgery has a limited role in treating leukemia because the cancer cells are not clustered together as a single removable tumor but it has spread widely throughout the body as blood circulates which is difficult to remove surgically.
Acute lymphocytic leukemia will take around two years to complete but the maintenance phase will take maximum time. Treatment will be more or less intense depending on the subtype of acute lymphocytic leukemia. It can even spread to the brain and spinal cord.
Surgery has rarely got any role in treating acute lymphocytic leukemia because leukemia cells can spread widely throughout the bone marrow and the blood and it is not possible to cure this cancer with surgery. Other than lymph node biopsy surgery rarely has any role in diagnosing acute lymphocytic leukemia this can only be done with a bone marrow aspiration and biopsy.
If leukemia is not being cured with the first line of treatment which is chemotherapy then the newer and the more intensive dose of chemotherapy are needed. Immunotherapy can be the option of patient with B-cell, stem cell transplant can also be done.
Some of the treatment for acute lymphocytic leukemia are chemotherapy, radiotherapy and chemotherapy with stem cell transplant.
The goal of the first phase is to kill the leukemia cells in the blood and bone marrow. The second phase is known as post-remission therapy. Its goal is to prevent a relapse (return) of the cancer. It involves killing any remaining leukemia cells that may not be active but could begin to regrow.
The best treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia is chemotherapy depending on its subtype you may need some other treatment such as targeted cancer drug, immunotherapy or a bone marrow transplant.
