Flap eared are those large ears standing well out from the head.
The main cause of flared ear lobe are underdeveloped antihelical fold, presence of too much cartilage in the concha or may be both.
Flaped eared correction is needed to correct the constricted ear deformity according to the severity it can be possible to work with the ear cartilage which is already present there for providing better shape of the ear.
Flared eared correction will take around one to two hours and as it is done under local anaesthesia you will be able to go home on the same day.
In flap eared correction surgery a small cut is being made behind the ear to expose the cartilage after that small pieces of cartilages are being removed. At last the stitches are put at the back of ear for reshaping or positioning it closer to head.
In this technique a small needle is being inserted into the surface of ear cartilage for making it more flexible. If bandage is kept around your head keep it clean and dry and you should not wash your hair till bandage is there. You might need to wear a headband at night for several weeks to protect your ears while you sleep.
It will take few weeks for the stitches to come to the surface of skin and making your ear feel tender.
Some of the side effects of flap eared correction surgery are presence of small scar behind ear. Soreness or tenderness in ear, numbness or tingling sensation in year and slight bruising in ear for about 2 week.
Flap eared correction surgery can cause inflammation of the ear cartilage, a blood clot in the skin of the ear, stiff ears – it can take several months for them to become flexible again,the ears no longer being symmetrical and the surgery not being successful and the ears starting to protrude again
