Acromioclavicular joint is sometimes gets injured in patients who participate in sports such as football, soccer hockey or wrestling this is also known as separated shoulder but it is not related to dislocated shoulder. Acromioclavicular joint dislocation are caused by a fall or an outstretched hand or by using a strong force.
Some of the symptoms of Acromioclavicular joint dysfunction are pain and stiffness which becomes worse at night and especially in cold weathers.
The treatment of Acromioclavicular joint includes strengthening of joint by physical therapy exercises or stretching. Surgery is done to relieve pain and restore the function by removing the damaged end of the clavicle bone. If the joint is more severe then it is needed to be treated surgically.
You can be at the risk of acromioclavicular joint repair if you have connective tissue disorder, heart disease, diabetes, lung disease or any previous trauma to shoulder.
