First the technician attaches the electrode to the chest and then the monitor is being placed which connects it to the electrode. The monitor is kept in pocket or a bag you can wear it like a strap or a purse. You can do most of your daily activities while you are wearing the monitor.
You have to wear loose fitting clothes so that the electrodes does not pull off while you are given.
It will take around 2 weeks for the technician to scan all the information from the monitor into the computer and then for the cardiologist to interpret the information.
While wearing Holter monitor you should not bath, shower, swim, don’t go near a high –voltage area or a metal detector or get an x ray done.
When it is sent to the technician they processes the record and send the report to the you. It will take a week or two to sent the report. They will advice you more cardiac test, heart medications, pacemakers or cardioversion procedure so that your heart return to a steady rhythm.
A Holter monitor has no risks or pain associated with it, you may have some itchiness or irritation due to it.
After one or two weeks you will be called by your doctor to get the result of the procedure and the result will show that the heart monitor has detected a heart rhythm disorder such as artial fibrillation, bradycardia, tachycardia or premature ventricular contractions.
