11-Year-Old Girl from Sri Lanka with Spine Deformity Gets Treated in India

A girl from Sri Lanka who was 11 years old only was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis with L5 S1 Spondyloptosis and right-sided severe, neglected, rigid thoracolumbar scoliosis.
Under the guidance of Dr. Karunakaran and Dr. Vijayaraghavan, MGM Healthcare, India, she underwent deformity correction surgery using 3D Bone Model Technology.
3D model technology is an advanced and preferable approach for deformity correction.
Director of MGM said that “Placing screws in such a deformed spine is really challenging. A plastic 3D bone model is used in this model, which is quite similar to the patient’s deformed spine.”
It is used as it helps to plan spine instrumentation before, as well as during surgery.
The post-operative care and rehabilitation resulted in significant clinical improvement.
