11-Year-Old Girl from Sri Lanka with Spine Deformity Gets Treated in India


  • A girl from Sri Lanka who was 11 years old only was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis with L5 S1 Spondyloptosis and right-sided severe, neglected, rigid thoracolumbar scoliosis.
  • Under the guidance of Dr. Karunakaran and Dr. Vijayaraghavan, MGM Healthcare, India, she underwent deformity correction surgery using 3D Bone Model Technology.
  • 3D model technology is an advanced and preferable approach for deformity correction.
  • Director of MGM said that “Placing screws in such a deformed spine is really challenging. A plastic 3D bone model is used in this model, which is quite similar to the patient’s deformed spine.”
  • It is used as it helps to plan spine instrumentation before, as well as during surgery.
  • The post-operative care and rehabilitation resulted in significant clinical improvement.
