Uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat fibroid tumors of the uterus which can cause heavy menstrual bleeding, pain, and pressure on the bladder or bowel.

Uterine fibroid is done on an outpatient procedure by a radiologist. There is no need of giving any anesthesia or any suture.

Uterine fibroid embolization is being done by Gynecologist or General Physician.
Before the procedure, intravenous antibiotics are administered. With the patient under mild intravenous sedation and local anesthesia, a small angiographic catheter is introduced into the femoral artery and guided into the left uterine arteIn performing therapeutic embolization, the radiologist can selectively block blood flow to abnormal bleeding or tumor blood vessels anywhere in the body by injecting various embolic agents through angiographic catheters. The catheter is guided to the target under fluoroscopy.
Some of the side effects of uterine fibroid embolization are injury to the uterus region, abnormal bleeding, infection of the uterus or puncture in groin region, collection of blood under the skin, injury to the artery being used and blood clots.
It will take around two to three weeks before your fibroids shrink enough for the symptoms to decrease and to return your menstrual cycle back to normal.
It will take almost a week to ten days to recover completely from embolization during the first few days you will have some amount of pelvic pain and pressure.
After uterine fibroid embolization the weight related changes starts to subside and for women having large or multiple fibroid there can be significant changes seen in the body.
