When you have one fallopian tube removed, it's called a unilateral salpingectomy. However, if both fallopian tubes are removed, it's referred to as bilateral salpingectomy.

Women can go for salpingectomy who have some health conditions related to their fallopian tube such as those who have high risk of developing breast cancer of ovarian cancer due to gene mutation. Laparpscopic salpingectomy is a minimally invasive surgery in this procedure a thin instrument called laparoscope is inserted which has a light and camera at its end. By making a small incision in abdomen it is inserted into the abdomen region for removing the fallopian tube and then after removing the excess blood and fluid the incision is being closed.

In the process of abdominal salpingectomy one large incision is being made across the abdomen and the surgeon will able to get acesss to this fallopian tube through this incision. Once the fallopian tubes are removed they are stitched.

A laparoscopic approach is preferred because it's less invasive with a shorter recovery time and lower risk of complications.

After a salpingectomy, you're taken to a recovery room for monitoring. If your surgery was performed laparoscopically, you might be able to go home the same day.
