Chat There are several tests done before getting a pediatric liver transplant including an MRI scan, CT scan of abdomen/pelvis, colonoscopy, ultrasound of abdomen/pelvis, electrocardiogram/chest X-ray, and blood work. The package typically includes the cost of these tests too.
The child must take medications in set doses to avoid rejection of the liver post the transplant. Subsequently, varieties of lesser dosages and medications are given to the child to minimize any side effects and also to recover. The medicine cost is included in the package when the child is in the hospital, but medicines taken for recovery are not covered in the package.
After a pediatric liver transplant, the child will have to stay at the hospital for about 7 to 10 days for a healthy older child, and it may be about 10 to 14 weeks for infants. The first follow-up is generally within 1 to 2 weeks after you leave the hospital and will resume for 2 alternating months.
