Lung transplantation or pulmonary transplant is the process of replacing diseased lung or lung which is failing its functions by another lung, mainly from a cadaveric donor. this is a complex process and it is only suggested in cases where no other treatments seems to help.
in this process of lung transplantation, the diseased lung part or complete lung is removed, patient is kept on artificial breathing, in case of living donor only a single lobe is taken, in case of deceased donor complete lung is taken and placed inside the recipient's body, later the blood supply, airways and trachea are attached to the donor organ. proper management and observation is needed post-surgery.
