Before the Procedure (5 Questions):

Cystoscopy is a surgery through which the doctor can see the lining of the bladder and tube which carries out urine throughout your body. In this surgery a hollow tube equipped with a lens is being inserted to the urethra which slowly goes to the bladder. 

Cystoscopy is a procedure which is being used for diagnosing the problem of the urinary tract such as the early sign of cancer, infection, narrowing, blockage or bleeding.

Yes, cystoscopes is a major surgery which is being  used to perform the procedure which are flexible and rigid, flexible scope can be used with a person who are lying flat but it ca also be used for very minor procedure.

Cytoscopy is not a painful surgery, you can tell your doctor or nurse if you feel any kind of pain during the surgery. This surgery can be a little uncomfortable you may feel you like to pass urine during this procedure but it will only last for about few minutes.

If you are having bladder control problem such as urinary retention, bladder stones, blood in urine, frequent urinary tract infection and painful urination then you may need to undergo cystoscopy procedure.

During the Procedure (7 Questions):

Cystocopes are used to get urine sample from ureter, inject dye for an x ray procedure, inject medicines to stop leakage of urine, removing uretheral stent to remove a bladder stone abnormal tissue polyps and tumors.

You have to follow some instructions before the procedure such as:

  • Urinate immediately before the procedure.
  • If you are taking any medicines inform your doctor about it

Stop taking blood-thinning medications

In cystoscopy procedure a doctor slides a lubricated cystoscope through the urethra to the bladder and then injects a sterile salt water through thecystoscope into the bladder. Then looks inside of the bladder and urethra and then insert a small instrument through cystoscope and it also used to remove the tissue tumor. At last injected liquid from the bladder is being drained and then drain the injected liquid from the bladder and  you are told to empty your bladder in restroom.

You may have belly pain, blood in urine or pain after urination for first day or two days after the procedure. You may also feel frequent urination but all these symptoms will fade within 48 hours after surgery.

You should drink several glasses of water every day to flush out the bladder and apply a warm, damp wash cloth over the urethral opening  and take medicines as prescribed to you.

Bladder infection, urethral scarring, narrowing or trauma, UTI are some potential risks and complications of the cystoscopy procedure.

You should contact your doctor if you are having painful urination, blood clots in urine, not able to urinate, pain in urination, signs of infection such as fever, pelvic pain, strong-smelling or cloudy urine.

Post the Procedure (3 Questions):

You may recover in one to two days after surgery you may also feel the need to urinate more often and your urine may be of pink colour. Even though the symptoms should get better in one to two days you should consult your doctor.

The result of the procedure will be seen after one to two weeks.
