Blepharoplasty is done for removing the saggy tissues from the eyelids and it can be done on both the eye caps. Treatment on both caps are done simultaneously first local anaesthesia is given and the incision is being made along the natural line of eyelids for removing the unwanted fat and tissues and the same procedure is repeated for other eye.
Due to aging the elasticity of skin loses and there is constant pull from gravity which causes collection of skin in upper and lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty is usually done for cosmetic reason it is an effective way for improving eyesight in older people whose sagging eyelids are getting their way in vision. This procedure will not let you get rid of dark circles below your eyes, crow’s feet and wrinkles.
The best candidate for blepharoplasty are those whose health is good and have realistic expectation form surgery. This surgery can improve your appearance and build up your self confidence but it may not alter your facial structure.
You should arrange a person along with you who can safely drive you home after surgery. You should limit your work activities for few days after surgery while there is healing in your eyelids, you should keep ice cubes, icepack, clean towel and guaze ready.

This surgery takes 2 hours to perform, if it is done on both upper and lower eyelids. This surgery is done under local anaesthesia with sedation. If both caps of your eyelid is done surgeon will work first on your upper eyelids and he will make a cut along the natural line of your eyelids and through this cut skin will be separated from the underlying tissue for removing the excess fat and skin. The next day after the surgery the incisions are closed with small stitches and stitches in upper eyelids will remain there for 3-6 days. Stitches in the lower eyelid may not be necessary depending on technique used. In lower eyelid surgery a cut is made inside your lower eyelid for removing fat.
After the surgery you may have blurry vision and your eyes may feel dry or watery. You can put ice packs on your eyes and sleep with your head raised after surgery.
Upper eyelid surgery is good for at least 5-7 years. Lower eyelid surgery rarely needs to be repeated. Of course, your eyes will still age after the procedure. If there is sagging in your repeated then the procedure may need to be repeated.
After blepharoplasty surgery you will have stitches in both of your eyelids for a week. You may experience some form of swelling, bruising your eyebrows may look normal within one or two week.
Bleeding, infection, dry eyes, abnormal coloring of the eyelids, not able to fully close your eyes, loss of vision are some of the complications of blepharoplasty.
