Bichat fat removal is also known as buccal fat removal, it removes the extra fat present between the cheeks to create a subtle appearance to cheeks.
Good candidate for buccal fat removal are those people who are in good physical health,have round appearance of their cheek region, round and fuller cheek.
Yes, buccal fat removal is permanent. If fat is removed from one part of the body it is not going to come back, that is true with buccal fat also once buccal fat is removed it is not going come back.
Since buccal fat removal is a soft tissue procedure there is some discomfort and pain, even though pain is rare you will be given some pain medications.
Buccal fat pad is a naturally occurring fat pad which is present between the cheek, buccal fat stores the baby fat in the face which starts disappearing since the onset of puberty. In some people the volume of buccal fat does not reduce and it also persists till adulthood. Some of the factors which causes the appearance of buccal fat is the weight and the second is the volume of face and the second is genetics.
Buccal fat removal is done by plastic surgeon.
It will take around 15 to 25 minutes for buccal fat removal.
Step One: Anesthesia- This surgery can be done in both local and general anaesthesia but mostly local anaesthesia is being preferred.
Step Two: Incision: Incision is being made in the inner side of the cheeks inside the mouth, the incision is usually small and just large so that buccal fat pads can be removed. Then buccal fat is taken out from the incision.
Step Three: Closing: In the last step incision is being closed , incision is usually closed with sutures in some cases absorbable and dissolving sutures are also placed.The type of stitches used will be determined by your surgeon at the time of the procedure.
If your surgery is done under general anaesthesia you may feel nauseous, dizzy for some time during your recovery.
Usually swelling reduces after one to two week of the procedure. Complete recovery takes around 3 to 4 weeks. In this period it is very common to have swelling and soreness.
For the first seven days of the procedure you have to limit yourself to liquid and semi liquid diet mainly for first three to five days. Within 7 to 10 days you can have your normal diet and you should not eat hard and crunchy food for atleast 2 weeks of the procedure.
The result of the procedure is usually seen once the swelling is reduced you will notice that your cheek is slimmer than before.
