Several tests are done prior to bariatric surgery for weight loss, such as a complete blood count (CBC), urinalysis, chemistry panel, gallbladder ultrasound, chest X-ray, ECG, and GI evaluation. All these test costs are involved in the package.

The pharmacy and medicine costs are included in the package when the patient is hospitalized. However, if the patient buys medicines from outside the hospital, they will pay money for them. 

After the surgery, the patient has to stay 1-2 days in the hospital. The patient must attend 4-6 follow-up meetings during the first post-surgery year. The first follow-up should be taken 2-3 weeks after the surgery.  

After the bariatric surgery, the patient can get back to normal activities after 3-5 weeks. Patients should keep all their recommended follow-up appointments for the best possible results after the surgery and avoid any post-treatment expenses. They also need to take over-the-counter vitamins and minerals for life, such as multivitamins, Calcium, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, and Iron.

Health insurance covers bariatric surgery if the patient proves to the insurer that it is medically essential and not used for cosmetic purposes. The patient has to submit the following documents: 

• Surgeon's prescription for diagnostic tests

• Medical reports and descriptions to file a claim

• The patient has a BMI of 40 or higher

Gastric bypass is the lowest cost procedure that comes under bariatric surgery. It is a good alternative to achieve the same benefit.
