Adenotonsillectomy can cause mild or moderate pain in most people but few people may experience severe pain for the first two days after the surgery.
Adenotonsillectomy surgery takes about 20 to 30 minutes to complete under general anaesthesia.

In Adenotonsillectomy surgery the adenoids are being removed from behind the nose with special instrument and pressure is applied for controlling bleeding. Using sharp instruments the tonsils are being removed and they are sutured with stitches and cautery.
It will take about 2 weeks to recover completely from the surgery.
Adenotonsillectomy surgery has some risks such as pain, bleeding, infection, scar formation and delayed bleeding which can occur for 2 weeks after surgery.
After Adenoidectomy surgery you should completely rest at your home for few days and you may be told to do light activities but you have to avoid doing strenuous physical activities for one week after surgery.
It is very common that your may have sore throat for 2-3 weeks after getting tonsils and adenoid removal. The pain will be more severe for first week after surgery and it will be resolved in 2-3 weeks after surgery.
