Dr. Shubham Garg, Surgical Oncologist, visits Vaidam’s office for an informative session on surgical options available to treat various types of cancer. He is a Senior Consultant at Fortis Hospital, Noida. 

With his rich field experience, Dr. Shubham Garg has performed various tumour removal surgeries with a high success rate.

During his visit to Vaidam’s office, he gave very insightful knowledge to our team. He talked about various treatment options available depending on the case.

Types of surgeries depending on how advanced the cancer is:

• Remove all the tumours -
  Surgery removes complete cancer in a particular area.

• Debulking of the tumour -
  Surgery removes part, but not all, of cancer. Excision is used when removing the entire tumour may damage an organ or the body.
  Removing part of the tumour can help other treatments work better. Remove the symptoms of cancer

• Ease cancer symptoms -
  Surgery is used to remove tumours that are causing pain or pressure.

There are a few specialized surgeries used during cancer treatment, such as

• Cryosurgery
  In this surgical procedure, doctors use extreme colds to kill cancer cells. Cryosurgery is commonly used for skin cancer and cervical cancer. Depending on whether the tumour is inside or outside the body, liquid nitrogen is applied to the skin or into an instrument called a cryoprobe (which is inserted into the body to touch the tumour). Cryosurgery is being investigated as a surgical treatment for many types of cancer.

• Laser surgery
  This procedure uses beams of light instead of an instrument to remove minimal amounts of cancer (without damaging the surrounding tissue), to shrink or destroy the tumour, or to use drugs to kill cancer cells. Laser surgery is a precise procedure that can be used to treat hard-to-reach areas, including the skin, cervix, rectum, and larynx.

• Electrosurgery
  This procedure uses electrical current to kill cancer cells. Electrosurgery can be used to treat Skin cancer and oral cancer sometimes. 

It is a microscopically controlled surgery. This type of surgery is useful if cancer affects sensitive parts of the body, such as the eyes.
A layer of skin is removed and examined under a microscope until no more cancer cells can be seen.
