Mr. Ishmail Lahai, a 39-year-old man from Sierra Leone, had been living with back pain for around three years. He wanted to find the right treatment and understand what could be done to improve his condition.

After arriving in Mumbai, Mr. Ishmail consulted Dr. Jayesh Sardhara, Neurosurgeon at Fortis Hospital, Mulund. Following his evaluation, he was diagnosed with L4-L5 disc prolapse. In simple terms, a disc in the lower part of his back had developed a problem, causing his back pain.

After assessing his condition, Dr. Jayesh Sardhara recommended an endoscopic lumbar discectomy. This is a minimally invasive procedure in which the surgeon removes the part of the affected disc that is causing the problem.

Mr. Ishmail underwent L4-L5 endoscopic discectomy on 17 August 2026 at Fortis Hospital, Mulund.

Following the procedure, Mr. Ishmail had a good post-operative recovery. He received the necessary medicines, intravenous fluids, antibiotics, and post-operative care. His symptoms improved significantly after treatment, and he was discharged with oral medications and the required follow-up advice.
