Sawsan Abnawf from Sudan Successfully Receives IVF Treatment in India from Southend IVF Centre for a Third Baby
Resident of Sudan, Sawsan Abnawf is a proud mother of two beautiful children. The 35-year-old mother conceived her two children under normal circumstances. “My first child was easily conceived under normal circumstances. He was healthier, sweeter and more beautiful than I ever could have imagined. The success gave me a sense of security that I could have more children in the future.”
By the time Sawsan had her second child, which was also under normal circumstances, she was convinced that she wanted a third and like on the two previous occasions, her pregnancy would be a breeze. “At the beginning of the year, we got a pregnancy test done and to my surprise, it came back negative. The negative pregnancy test stung for a second, but I was quick to forget and thought I’d have better luck next time. When the fourth and fifth tries had the same results, I started to get a little concerned and wondered what the doctors were missing.”
The constant failure pushed Sawsan to trying something different; however, an IVF was just a thought at this point. “Trying something different was the only option available, due to my high level of hormones my doctor suggested I try again, but by then I was tired of the failed pregnancy tests.”
Out of options, Sawsan and her husband began searching online and reading about other parents who conceived after numerous failed attempts. “Reading about these stories gave us a lot of courage; we knew we shouldn't give up so easily”. The couple’s search online brought them to Vaidam.com. They were very soon in touch with a Vaidam Case Manager, who explained the entire procedure and the option to go through with an IVF. “Our case manager explained to us how IVF had evolved over the years, especially in India where they were using newer technology for improved chances of success. We instantly knew that this was our opportunity for a successful pregnancy and we didn't want to miss out. Case manager shared top 20 IVF centers in India and the couple decided to go with Southend Fertility center.
Arriving on the 9th of July, Sawsan and her husband made their way to Southend Fertility and IVF centre in New Delhi for their appointment with Dr. Sonia Malik.. “There was also no waiting list in our area, for which we were of course so thankful.” After a long but very helpful counseling session, followed by lots of form filling, some tests, Dr. Sonia Malik- one of the best IVF doctors in India, was ready to begin the procedure.
The first stage was a Down Regulation or DR. This is generally a tough stage for would be mothers as it is followed by headaches, night sweats, mood swings, exhaustion and more. During this stage, the doctors effectively take charge of Sawsan’s cycle and prepare to stimulate her ovaries. This was followed by an injection that was taken every day for the next few weeks. “During these days, I ate a good diet, drank lots and lots of water and rested as much as I could.”
This was followed by the second stage of IVF i.e. stimulation. By this time Sawsan was on two injections per day with regular internal scans at the clinic to check her follicles. Stimming lasted a few days, and before they knew it was time for the collection of Sawsan’s eggs. Sawsan was visibly excited at this point as it was finally happening. “I was a little anxious on the day of the procedure, but it went smoothly and they collected 11 eggs, slightly more than expected so we were happy.”
The next day, the couple received a call from the clinic telling them how the fertilisation had gone. Fortunately, it was good news. Out of the 11 eggs, 5 had begun to fertilise, “our chances of success were 50-50. I had a very good feeling about this,” says Sawsan. By day 5 the clinic selected the ‘best’ embryo. It was classed as Grade 2, meaning it was in healthy condition, the embryo was placed inside Sawsan, as explained by their Doctor. “I felt much better in the morning after I said a silent prayer giving thanks to the lord almighty”.
After over a month’s stay in India, Sawsan and her husband finally made their way back to Sudan. In a phone call with their case manager, Sawsan explained, “We could not have been happier; it felt as though our pregnancy was even more of a miracle from God. We would like to thank the staff at Southend for their support and guidance through our journey; we couldn’t have done this without them. We would also like to say a big thank you to Vaidam, you were a source of encouragement and support in India that we did not expect.”
