Saleha Begum, who is 58 years old and belongs to Bangladesh had a smooth and uncomplicated life until one day when her lower left leg started to ache. The pain was aggravated when she tried to move the leg. As she told the doctor while telling her medical history, she did not have any associated loss of consciousness or any bleeding. She did not bother about the pain for a while and thought of it as a minor issue. However, she got worried when it did not go away.
Consequently, Saleha started a quest to find the best doctor for her pain. Due to limited medical resources in her own nation, she preferred to come to India. She called Vaidam Health to speed up the process. The case manager helped her to find some of the best hospitals in India for her problem. She decided to approach Apollo Hospital, Chennai. Soon, all her documents were filed and arrangements were made by the team for her arrival in India. She arrived on 30th October 2018, after which she was taken from the airport to the hotel. Next day, her appointment was booked with Dr. Balaji V, one of the topmost vascular surgeons in India.
On the day of the appointment, Dr. Balaji met her and exchanged an assuring gesture, which already made her feel better. He took detailed case history from Saleha during which she told the doctor that she also has a history of CVA in the past. He conducted all the physical examinations and had blood tests done. After receiving the reports, the doctor came to the conclusion that the patient had right ICA critical stenosis along with Left ICA occlusion. This meant that one of her major artery on the right side was narrowed in addition to blockage in the artery on the left side. To add upon her problems, she learned that she also has Diabetes Mellitus with associated systemic hypertension.
The diagnosis was surprising to Saleha. She had no idea that a minor issue of leg pain, would be an artery blockage. She was also extremely panicked to know that she had diabetes. Watching her getting so petrified about the diagnosis, Dr. Balaji assured her that she will get treated with the best hands and she will be fine soon. Thereafter, she was made aware of the detailed treatment plan. She was told that she the best treatment for her would be right carotid endarterectomy, as a part of which the lining of the artery would be widened by removing the plaque deposits on the wall. She felt nervous but gave her consent, and got her surgery scheduled.
On the day of the surgery, all the pre-operative tests were carried out. She was pacified by the staff members. Finally, the surgery was performed and took nearly 2 hours. After the surgery, the patient was shifted to the ward. She was made to stay in the hospital for some days to recover from the surgery. After her recovery, the patient was pain-free and very happy with her treatment at the best vascular surgery hospital in India. She was given the essential post-surgery instructions and discharged from the hospital.
Saleha Begum was extremely joy and grateful to Vaidam Health and the hospital for the entire services. She told that she had a fantastic experience in India. Vaidam wishes her great life ahead.
