55-year-old Nurun Nahar is from Bangladesh and has been suffering from Diabetes Mellitus. But for a few years now, Nahar developed another deformity. Known as the Charcoat’s Foot, the condition causes the bones in the foot and ankle to weaken to the point that they may even get fractured without the person noticing. Over time as the deformity aggravates, the joints collapse and the foot morphs into an abnormal shape with its heels swollen and jutted out (a condition known as rocker – bottom). Not waiting for any longer Nahar decided to come to India with her son to seek a proper and comprehensive treatment.
How did such a deformity develop?
I don’t have any idea as to how or from where did it happen. It started with the pain at first and then gradually my whole foot swelled. The pain and the swelling intensified in such a way that I could not walk. I could not feel anything. My foot was completely numb. I did not know what was happening to me. It was scary because the doctors in Bangladesh could not provide any treatment for it and I and my family were at a complete loss.
Where did you have your treatment in India?
In India, I had my treatment at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon, under Dr. Balvinder Rana, the director of Orthopedic and Joint Replacement Department at the best orthopedic hospital in India.
What did Dr. Rana say?
I visited India twice: once in July and then again in November. The first medical trip was for complete diagnosis from which I got to know that the deformity I had actually has a name and is called the Charcoat’s Feet. Dr. Rana told me that the condition may have developed because of diabetes itself. He made me understand what has happened and how the problem can be solved and that a surgery was required to correct it.
How did the treatment go?
The treatment went really well. Dr. Rana is the best orthopedic doctor in India and I am thankful to him for emancipating me from such an agonizing and sorry condition. Fortis Memorial Research Institute is truly an incredible hospital harboring the most advanced medical infrastructure and patient care facilities. Not at any moment in the hospital did I feel left out or delayed. Everything was very organized and proper.
How did you get to know that a treatment was available in India for Charcoat’s Foot?
My son looked up in the internet to find a treatment for my condition and got to know about Vaidam Health. When he enquired, the team got it to touch with him and provided him with all the details regarding the hospitals and doctors in India and arranged an appointment for us at FMRI.
How has your experience been under Vaidam’s assistance?
It was very good. Apart from being sound professionals, the team is very caring and amiable. Both of my trips have been smooth and trouble-free. From accommodation to airport pickup, they have assisted us by arranging for everything on time. The team was regularly in touch with us and even accompanied us to the hospital both during evaluation and treatment. Because of Vaidam, there was not a moment in India when we felt helpless or left out. I thank them for all their endeavors and wish them all the luck.
