35-year-old Gulyamova Sarvinoz from Uzbekistan has been under medication since birth. The reason of such rigorous medical management since her childhood lay in the fact that she suffered from four combined congenital heart defects, one leading to the other. Known as tetralogy of fallot, the cardiac condition accelerated over the years to the point where even medicines did not work resulting in breathlessness, cyanosis and fatigue.
“The symptoms had aggravated so much that even when I took medicines regularly, I experienced shortness of breath. It sometimes felt as if someone was suffocating me from within. I witnessed discoloration of my lips and fingers to a bluish-purple. Things were turning out to be pretty scary and I understood that I needed a treatment as soon as possible”, said Sarvinoz.
Tetralogy of fallot develops with stenosis or narrowing of the pulmonary valve that does not let the deoxygenated blood pass through easily. As a result the heart has to exert extra pressure. This further leads to thickening of the myocardium or the heart muscle of the right ventricle. TOF also leads to the development of a ventricular septal defect (hole in the wall separating the left and right ventricles). The presence of the VSD allows shunting of deoxygenated blood to the right ventricle that ultimately passes through the aorta and circulates in the body causing loss of oxygen saturation.
Without delaying any further, Sarvinov looked for the top 10 best cardiac hospitals in India for her treatment and arrived in India. “I did not wait any longer. Time was short and I had to find a suitable treatment that would end this problem once and for all. I no longer wanted my life to be dependent on medicines”, said she.
In India she underwent a total correction surgery at Medanta – the Medicity performed by Dr. Amit Misri. “I can’t believe that I am finally fine. Thirty-five years of my life has been like a tedious nightmare. Dr. Misri is a fine doctor. His expertise in cardiac surgery is marvelous. The cyanosis is gone and I do not feel fatigued anymore. Medanta has provided me with a new life and I cannot be thankful enough”, smiled Sarvinoz.
Through the dedicated assistance of Vaidam Health, Gulyamova arrived in India with her brother and sister for her treatment and stayed for over a fortnight. Before leaving for home she added, “I will never forget Vaidam’s help. They have been so kind and true to their service. Helping me with one of the best cardiology hospitals in India, they even notified me about the cost and assisted me in visa application. Because of them I and my siblings did not have any trouble to find a suitable place to stay as they had already arranged it for us beforehand. I am really happy to have got acquainted with them and grateful for guiding me rightly”.
