Hamdiyah’s knee problems began years ago with a torn meniscus, and her knees kept getting progressively worse. First, she began waking up in the morning with her right knee swollen and aching. As a homemaker, she constantly had to climb up and down steps from her apartment; this was becoming increasingly difficult and painful to do.
At that time, Hamdiyah had accompanied her sister for her orthopedic visits with the family doctor at a nearby clinic. This gave her the opportunity to discuss the options available to finally relieve the pain in both of her knees.
Her doctor immediately recommended to get X-rays of her knees in order to determine her options. Upon receiving her x-ray results, the doctor confirmed that Hamdiyah had completely worn away the cartilage in both of her knees. They were ‘bone-on-bone’ and the reason behind her extreme pain. She was going to need total knee replacement surgery on both of her knees. Hamdiyah was a great candidate for knee replacement.
Having suffered from excruciating pain from the last few years, Hamdiyah was determined to get the treatment she needed. After speaking with friends and family, they decided that the best course of action was to get the knee replacement surgery abroad. “We had multiple options, and money was not a problem, but it was still difficult to choose” said Hamdiyah’s husband. After considerable research, the family eventually landed on Vaidam’s health page. “Our extensive research led us to Vaidam.com, being able to check the options and compare prices made the decision much easier”.
The family finally decided to call the Vaidam helpline number. What they heard was a surprise like no other. “We spoke to a gentleman by the name of Ibrahim Usmani who spoke fluent Arabic, this was a huge relief as we had earlier assumed that language was going to be a huge problem”. The family made an appointment on the 15th April 2018 with renowned Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Jatinder Bir Singh Jaggi. Arriving at New Delhi Indra Gandhi International Airport on the 11th of April, they were relieved to find a Vaidam patient relation executive at the airport, patiently awaiting for their arrival. The family was taken to their hotel to await their appointment with Dr. Jatinder Bir Singh Jaggi.
“The entire process from pick up to drop off was fantastic, we had nothing to worry about, think of, or organize. It was all streamlined and seamless", said Hamdiyah’s husband.
A relieved Hamdiyah now recalls, “The entire staff at the hospital, every person there from surgical and medical staff right down to the cleaner who washed the floors of my room every day was there for me, nothing was an issue or problem and the speed and efficiency that they attended to what I needed was fantastic. They were so friendly and helpful that I will remember each and every one of them.”
Now back in their home country after a successful surgery, the family is relieved that the entire ordeal is finally over. In a recent phone call with her case manager Hamdiyah said, “I have nothing but gratitude and respect for the team that has given me a second chance in life.”
