It all begun when Laura Amayo, a 42 years old lady from Kenya, experienced a very slight bloody discharge in the mornings. She thought it of dryness or slight infections and turned blind eye to this. But a few days later it happened again. Due to her hectic schedule, she was not able to fix an appointment with a gynecologist, so she searched on Google. She was convinced it was due to some dryness and nothing to worry about.
After a week or so, it was her menstruation time. She experienced a heavy menstrual flow, stomach cramps, and extended menstrual flow for 5-9 days. It was alarming for her and obvious that something is serious. Couldn’t put it off any longer, she fixed an appointment with a gynecologist.
“I was diagnosed with fibroids after a few tests. At the early 40s, this came as a complete shock. I have always been fit and healthy. I was told I need hysterectomy”, says Amayo. She was reluctant to the surgery and decided to try some exercise before rushing into this step.
She tried floor exercise, improved her diet but all in vain. Her problems were increased and took painkillers every night. “I was so frustrated of back pain and heavy menstrual flow and would feel scared for bending, standing and walking. It was difficult for me to do household work, doing laundry, lifting groceries, I couldn’t do my job.”
Finally, she decided to go for hysterectomy. She has heard of how the Indian medical industry is providing affordable treatments and that too with new techniques, so India was her choice for the surgery. She searched the internet for the best hysterectomy hospitals in India and stumble upon Vaidam. She sent her query and within 24 hours her query was answered by one of the Vaidam’s executive.
She was asked to share her medical reports, which was then shared with the top hospitals. The quotation was shared with Amayo along with the names of some of the best gynecologists in India. She decided to go with Dr. Dinesh Kansal of BLK Super Specialty Hospital, New Delhi.
All the arrangements, from visa filling to accommodation, were done. She arrived in India on 16th November, 2018 and was picked up by Vaidam’s executive. The very next day she made her way to the hospital. Her surgery was started the same day. After giving her general anesthesia, she was shifted to OT for laparoscopic hysterectomy. A small cut on the belly button was made to insert a tube with a lighted camera so that operation can be viewed on a video screen. The one-hour surgery went as planned and was discharged from the hospital after 2 days. After getting approval from the doctor, she returned back to her native country.
Now on the road to recovery, she says “I suggest anyone who undergoes a hysterectomy to take rest for 3 weeks and eat healthily. Watch TV to pass time and don’t forget to take medication on time.” She further added, “Dr. Dinesh Kansal is such a talented doctor. I had faith that I was in the best of hands and everything was going to work out, and it really did. A big thanks to Vaidam team and Dr. Kansal.”
